Academic (Dis)honesty and Generative AI

Generative AI has disrupted how teachers understand, identify, and discuss academic (dis)honesty with students. As its use becomes increasingly widespread among students at GU, many teachers are grappling with questions such as: Is it considered academic dishonesty when students use generative AI to complete coursework? If so, how can I identify and report such cases?

This seminar supports teachers in addressing these questions through information and discussion. Specifically, the seminar provides an overview of how the University handles suspected cases of “misleading use of generative AI” and provides strategies for communicating with students about potentially dishonest uses of generative AI in the context of their coursework.

The seminar will support participants in developing:
· A better understanding of how to identify and report “misleading use of generative AI”
· Strategies for engaging in dialogues with students about generative AI and academic dishonesty.

The session includes discussion, practical examples, and opportunities to share teaching experiences across disciplines.
